Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter turned fashion mogul Ciara never does anything by half measures. Last year she and her husband, football player Russell Wilson decided to merge fashion and philanthropy with their launch of The House of LR&C, a retail concept focused on giving on giving back, and Human Nation, a sustainable streetwear line. Next on the docket for Ciara is Dare To Roam (DTR), a line of chic minimalist backpacks and accessories crafted from antimicrobial nylon.

The collection’s hero piece, the Prodigy Backpack, comes in two sizes and features a quilted tech compartment that easily accommodates a 15 in laptop, side slip pockets that keeps a water bottle within reach, and padded adjustable shoulder straps with branded jacquard webbing. There is also an Alpha Org Pouch for stashing small tech items and a Keeper Lunchbox—both prime additions for getting back into the school drop-off routine. DTR’s accessories are made to store all your daily must-haves. For Ciara, these items include everything from Kiehl’s lotion and hand sanitizer (of course) to a concealer kit and the obvious wallet-key combination—basically, everything she needs to get out the door.

“I’m the girl that’s always moving so having that durability and flexibility in a bag is so important,” she tells BAZAAR.com. “So with DTR, that was some of the influence that I poured into the creative process of how we were able to make the designs and make them multifunctional. We also have antimicrobial technology, which really is just another safe layer on your back as you’re daring to roam.”

As a fashion lover, it was important that she create a lineup that is as stylish as it is practical. “When it’s all said and done, I want to be able to give you every layer that you need when it comes to fashion, and in this case, you can be fashionable while carrying a backpack,” she explains. “Why not?” The “Level Up” singer knows her way around a Mugler cutout suit or a Balmain thigh-slit tuxedo gown, but ultimately, she loves a good nostalgic fashion moment. “There’s something so effortless about the style from the ’90s that’s still appealing today,” she says.

At the heart of all Ciara’s ventures, there is a charitable component, because for the mom of three, it’s all about paying it forward. For each DTR purchase made, 3 percent of sales will be donated to her and Wilson’s Why Not You Foundation, a non-profit centered on children’s health, education, and fighting systemic poverty. “In the many opportunities that I’ve been very blessed to have and create things, the ultimate question that I ask myself is, ‘How am I going to be able to make an impact through this brand?’” she says. “And DTR is no different.”

Available in several colorways online at daretoroam.com, each piece in the collection is priced between $39 and $89. Shop the collection below.
